My overarching goal is to understand and improve health and prevent disease. To do this we dissect the underlying molecules, cells, and tissues that comprise developing and mature tissues, and identify the molecules and mechanisms responsible for their ability to enable physiological health and their defective functions that lead to many different diseases. Some of what I like to do involves developing new analysis and reasoning approaches, and some involves specific problem solving around individual genetic diseases. Almost every day I get to work on problems related to developing and translating mechanistic understanding into better research, better treatments, better preventions.
