Specializing in audio-visual signal processing and informatics, multimedia summarization, knowledge-assisted visualization, immersive computing and virtual/mixed reality. He works with numerous industry partners across the GTA and abroad, from across a variety of sectors: including graphic arts and communications, film and cinema, 3D animation, augmented reality, advertising and marketing, and biomedical imaging & informatics.
Dr. Kyan's passion revolves around dissolving traditional boundaries that exist in the human-computer interface, and using pattern recognition and computational intelligence to extend and augment the human as they engage in computer mediated experiences.
Dr. Kyan won the Inaugural Siemens National Prize for Innovation, Australia (?99) for his work with 3D confocal image analysis. He is a member of the IEEE Signal Processing (SPS), Computational Intelligence (CIS) and Engineering in Medicine and Biology Societies (EMBS), currently serving as Treasurer for IEEE EMBS, Toronto Chapter.
