Brian Edwards is currently Executive Director of the Joseph H. Kanter Foundation. The Joseph H. Kanter Foundation is a private foundation established to bring together diverse organizations and people to collaboratively advance human health by leveraging Big Data to ensure every decision affecting health is informed by the knowledge of what works best. Brian leads all day-to-day operations focused no rapidly designing and establishing the first operational, patient-centered Learning Health System Network (LHS.network).
Previously Brian was Research Project Coordinator in the Center for Biomedical Research Informatics (CBRI) at NorthShore University HealthSystem where he led a team of data scientists, Epic Optimization developers, ETL programmers, business intelligence analysts and bio-statisticians. Brian oversaw all retrospective clinical analytics, business intelligence and cohort discovery for researchers throughout the institution using NorthShore's best in class enterprise data warehouse (EDW). While at CBRI Brian also spearheaded the launch of the NorthShore 3D Printing Lab, the REDCap User Group and the institutions first IRB-approved mobile health pilot. Brian also co-founded Health Heritage, a biomedical informatics startup that uses natural language processing (NLP) technology and EMR family health history data to provide an individualized risk assessment for the ten known heritable cancers.
