Vilas Menon is an Assistant Professor of Neurological Sciences in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. His group uses a combination of single-cell/single-nucleus RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, proteomics, and spatial molecular methods to assess cell type-specific interactions in the context of neurological disease. This includes methods development for computational analyses of large data sets in Alzheimer?s Disease, Parkinson?s Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis, to identify dysregulated cell types and pathways, as well as hallmarks of resilience at the cellular and individual level. Dr. Menon obtained his PhD in Applied Mathematics from Northwestern University and was a staff scientist at the Allen Institute for Brain Science in Seattle, WA. Prior to joining Columbia, he was a fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute?s Janelia Research Campus.
