Angela Dramowski AngelaD

As an infectious diseases clinician, paediatrician and infection preventionist, my research is inspired by the challenges and disease burden I encounter in clinical practice. Antibiotic resistant neonatal infections are an increasingly important cause of adverse clinical outcomes and a substantial contributor to preventable neonatal mortality. My research focuses on the epidemiology, treatment and prevention of neonatal bacterial infections in South Africa, and over time is developing partnerships with African collaborators and global neonatal networks (GARDP). I am supported by a NIH Emerging Global Leader award to develop a care bundle for the prevention of neonatal infections in resource-limited settings. In collaboration with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, South Africa has launched a national neonatal sepsis task team to develop research-informed quality improvement initiatives for neonatal sepsis surveillance, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. I am passionate about patient safety and the use of data to inform quality improvement in the care of hospitalized neonates and children.
