Dear Synapse team and users, I would like to use a commercial cloud provider (e.g. DNANexus or SevenBridges) to perform analyses of data from the [AMP-AD Knowledge portal](https://www.synapse.org/#!Synapse:syn2580853/wiki/409844), including controlled datasets such as RNA-seq alignments. I am still new to Synapse and was wondering if there are restrictions / recommendations on using cloud providers for analysis? Maybe that's a route others have chosen before? Specifically, it is my understanding that anybody who will have access to the data will need to be registered with Synapse. If that's correct, does this extend to the technical staff of a commercial cloud provider - or are the compliance guarantees provided by e.g. DNANexus (overview [here](https://www.dnanexus.com/papers/DNAnexus_SecurityComplianceOverview.pdf)) sufficient? Thanks a lot for any feedback, Thomas

Thanks for the question, Thomas!   Data downloaded from Synapse is the responsibility of the user downloading. The responsibility for that data does not transfer to anyone else whose system you may put this data on (assuming that the terms and conditions or access restrictions allow that). Anything that happens to data on a system like DNANexus is your responsibility.   I'll look for places in our documentation that this question could be addressed more concretely.
Thanks a lot for the feedback, Solveig!
I think this depends on the data use agreements of the data you're working with. Since AMP-AD is largely from post-mortem samples, there tend to be fewer restrictions, but I would consult the terms of use you agreed to when you accessed the data. If you still have questions, please post questions in the AMP-AD Knowledge Portal discussion forum in order that it get attention from the appropriate parties.
